FAQ
When is Bounce Commerce shown to users?
The display of Bounce Commerce depends on the solutions used. With AI-based product recommendations, the display takes place as soon as a user wants to leave the advertiser's online shop via the browser's back button. In this case, a redirect is triggered and the user-specific Bounce Commerce page with the advertiser's AI product recommendations is displayed. This function is intended to give users incentives to return to the shop through product recommendations and make a purchase.
With other solutions, product recommendations can be displayed directly on the product page, for example. You can find more information in our overview of the different solutions.
Isn't the visitor annoyed? After all, they want to leave the page.
A good question that we hear often. The answer is almost always no, for two reasons:
1. The user is already so annoyed that they are leaving your page immediately. But most visitors do not even know which page they were just on. As long as they see what they were looking for on the follow-up page, the visitor is satisfied. Of course, the page has to fit.
2. Professional Bounce Management includes spam protection for the potential customer. Once redirected, you can exclude the user from further redirects for a period of time you define. This allows the user to browse in peace and prevents repeated redirects.
Is it possible to show Bounce Commerce only for certain traffic channels?
Yes, we can use wildcard URL matches and redirect rules based on HTTP headers (referrer, browser, language, and so on), and therefore connection rules for redirects.
This means it is possible to show the Bounce Commerce page with product recommendations only if a user came to the online shop via Google Shopping and then leaves it. Only in this case would the Bounce Commerce page be displayed.
The disadvantage, however, is that potential is lost, creating the risk that users leave the online shop via other channels and may then buy from a competitor.
Is this like the pop-up that appears when I move the mouse to click "Back"?
This pop-up, called an exit-intent pop-up, is intended to prevent the user from leaving the page. Bounce Management only takes effect when the user actually leaves the page. So you reach visitors who are already lost.
There is another very important difference: Bounce Management also works on mobile. By using only an exit-intent pop-up, more than half of the potential engagement opportunities are lost. With Bounce Management, you gain all of them.
Is Bounce Commerce GDPR-compliant?
Our AI works entirely without personal or traceable data. This makes our solution a clear contrast to conventional product suggestion systems and AIs, which create recommendations based on individual preferences. Those systems try to recognize personal preferences and then suggest suitable products.
We take a different approach. Our product recommendations are based on relationships between different products and are optimized by analyzing completely anonymous data such as click rates. We do not track who clicks, only what is clicked. This enables us to deliver results comparable to systems that use personal data - completely without personal data.
How does the AI at Bounce Commerce work?
To determine similar products based on artificial intelligence, we vectorize all relevant content using a large language model. This assigns content to several thousand topics at the same time and sets it in relation. An evening dress and a summer dress are thematically closer than a dress and a gas grill.
Our system is extremely flexible. We support several established large language models (LLMs) such as Llama2, Mistral, Gemma, Notux and others. These models have different strengths, for example in certain topics or languages, so we can select the optimal model for each customer.
Building on this, we can use any fields from a customer's product data feed. Results based on product names can differ greatly from results based on product descriptions.
This allows us to find the best results quickly and easily without lengthy training.
Finally, all AI suggestions can be modified further. Additional rules can exclude products from or include products in the results. The AI can also learn from the achieved performance and further optimize the result automatically according to different KPIs.
How much does Bounce Management achieve? How many users can I address again? How successful is the approach?
According to a DPD study, an average of 62% of customers abandon the purchase process. On average, we can bring 30% of bouncing visitors back into the shop, and 10% of customers also buy again. The success of the follow-up page is of course very individual. We are happy to offer a trial month so you can measure and test the effectiveness yourself. In addition, we have received information from individual customers that in some cases more than 50% of referred customers are new customers, which is a high value in affiliate marketing. When using voucher codes on the follow-up page, our experience is that a discount code can increase conversions by another 30%.
You can find more success cases in our case studies.
How are redirects set up? How is this maintained?
After activating tracking via the master tag/container tag of the affiliate network or directly integrating the JavaScript code, no further change is required on your site. There are two maintenance options: a static and a dynamic rule set. With the static option, you simply tell us what should redirect where and we set it up for you. With the dynamic option, you specify the redirect destination yourself in the JavaScript code.
Do Bounce Commerce cookies/scripts negatively affect shop loading times?
No. The script is loaded "async" by default, meaning asynchronously. This means it has NO negative impact on page load time. Accordingly, the rendering (display) of the website is just as fast. In addition: the script is very small. Only 946 bytes are transferred.
Execution is also very fast. Usually, execution takes around 400 ms. The AI variant has exactly the same technical specifications. There is therefore no difference in loading time.
How does Bounce Commerce spam protection work?
After a user has left the shop, the Bounce Commerce follow-up page is shown. Afterwards, spam protection becomes active (standard: 3 hours). This means that once the user has been on the Bounce Commerce page and then returns to the shop and leaves the shop again, the follow-up page will not be shown again for the duration of the spam protection, because users should not be overwhelmed.
Is Bounce Commerce always hosted on an external domain?
By default, Bounce Commerce product recommendations are displayed on the follow-up page hosted by Bounce Commerce on its own server.
The advantages of hosting by Bounce Commerce are:
- We pay very close attention to performance
- It fits perfectly into the advertiser's CI/CD
- If changes are necessary, we can make them directly and without additional coordination
However, it is also possible for the Bounce Commerce follow-up page to be hosted by the advertiser. For this, we need SSH access to enable automated deployment.
Alternatively, forwarding to a subdomain of the advertiser is also possible.
Are the sales not merely cannibalization effects?
The landing page of a large fashion online shop was shown to 50% of users in an A/B test. The result was that revenue and sales dropped by exactly 50%. This suggests that users who were not shown the page did not return either. The test did not only analyze affiliate figures, but cross-channel figures as well. It also showed that the sales did not shift to other channels, but could be directly attributed to Bounce Commerce.
